The Artist
Dehlia Barnard-Edmunds B.Ed(Hons) ……..Textile Artist
I
specialise in producing highly original textile art work in the form
of wall hangings, quilts (for weddings, christenings or anniversaries),
framed pictures, cushions, torans, book covers, greetings cards and
invitations for all occasions. I use sumptuous fabrics, a variety of
techniques and I always add my own unique styling.
My work can be found in private collections throughout the UK, Europe
and the USA.
Design
I am passionate about colour and texture. I use rich colour combinations
and a wide variety of fabrics such as silks, satins, velvets, voiles,
organzas and other iridescent materials. Much of my work involves the
use of patchwork and appliqué with traditional techniques being given
a modern twist with my use of beading and hand and machine embroidery.
Stencilling, printing and batik also feature in some of my pieces and
these blend harmoniously in my compositions.
Inspiration
I have always admired the work of traditional quilters, weavers and
embroiderers but have never felt compelled to copy their patterns. My
knowledge of what they have achieved has given me the confidence to
interpret from my own inspirational fonts.
-
I
am inspired by the Art Deco period and it's architecture, jewellery
and styling.
- My work reflects my interest in Egyptian Dance and the colour and
passion of exotic Eastern Countries.
- The plants, animals and the rugged countryside where I live provide
exciting challenges to be interpreted in my creations.
- More often than not my inspiration may simply be drawn from the
fabrics themselves.
